L'Oreal Professional Steam Styler

We are not ones to straighten our hair usually, opting for the more toussled look, AKA rushing to get the kids to school, caught in the rain and almost missing our train look.
We do however enjoy playing around with hair tools to create different looks when we get a chance.
Straightening our hair is great for when we require a really sleek glossy look but when done frequently we can definitely feel the damage and dryness, especially on the ends of our hair. Because of this we were interested to have a look at the new steam styler from L'Oreal Professionel.

The Steam styler looks just like ordinary straighteners with two floating plates. It has 5 temperature settings ranging from 140c -210c. The temperature setting also remembers which heat level you usually use and chooses that setting automatically each time you use it.
One of the plates has an attached wide tooth comb which runs along the inside edge of the plate. Above the comb are tiny outlets which allow steam to pass through to the hair. There are arrows on the outer case which inform you which direction to run the hair along, ensuring that the comb brushes through the hair after it has been steamed.

The opposite plate is smooth.

Attached is a pod which you need to fill with water. The pod has small suckers underneath so you can stick the pod to a flat surface.

As you glide the plates down along the hair the steam ejects out. The high powered steam smoothes and seals the hair cuticle which leaves the hair straightened and glossy.

Really easy to use (exactly the same as using regular straighteners) the only extra bit of work is filling the steam pod up with water.
We thought that the steam may make the hair look a little frizzy but in fact it smoothed and softened the hair.

We used it on hair that had been washed and left to dry naturally to make sure it was pretty wild!

It's hard to get blonde hair to look shiny but after using the steampod, the hair looked much glossier at the root.
L'Oreal recommend using their replenishing smoothing cream,  particularly through dry areas of the hair. The cream is heat activated and will combat any frizz.
A good tool if you suffer from dry or brittle hair as the steam has a slightly more moisturising effect on the hair, the steam however is very hot so long term use will probably still result in similar damage to regular straighteners.
The steam is only produced once the plates are clamped shut so no worries about steam burns to the hands. The only negative we found is that the comb does pull on the hair. If you have very thick hair or very coarse hair you will need to section it into quite small pieces before you attempt to pull the hair through the comb.
Not a cheap at £170 so pop it on your christmas list if this is your kind of hair tool.
You can purchase from L'Oreal salons or online at Look fantastic where it is currently reduced in price to £144 and free delivery http://goo.gl/YoCc2I
