This spring Burberry released their gorgeous limited edition Silk and Bloom Blush Palette and their new range of Liquid Lip Velvets. I'll swatch and review two of the shades (shown above) that I picked from the latter soon, but let's take a look at the palette first!
I always look forward to Burberry's new palettes as they always look so collectable, unique and just plain beautiful! The Silk and Bloom Palette is no exception. This is an illuminating face powder that is meant to create a "soft glow with a hint of colour". After trying this out, it definitely delivers on soft glow and not just a hint of colour, but a fairly decent colour just as a blush normally would. I'm personally happy with that! You need to be light handed with this, especially if you have fair skin as it's a deep shade.
The palette is embossed beautifully with a geometric pattern referencing the antique wallpaper from London's Victoria and Albert Museum. Isn't it stunning! It was painful for me to have to use it and ruin the design, but it's also just as painful not to because look at that colour. ^_^ You just gotta dip that brush in there and pop it on them cheeks!
Below, the usual signature Burberry Beauty outer box packaging slides into another thick cardboard case that has the same wallpaper design and gold lettering.
I adore the gunmetal compact etched with the iconic Burberry check. There's a mirror under the lid. It has a sleek, magnetic closure. It has a black velvet pouch with a pocket for the applicator brush, which is fairly soft, flat and angled to fit the contours of your cheeks.
Below is the product label description on the bottom of the compact.
Size
5 g / 0.17 oz
Made in Italy.
Colour & Finish
Soft, medium to dark plum with a subtle, cool-toned sheen.
Pigmentation, Texture, Application & Longevity
The pigmentation is not so intense upon first application, so it's very user-friendly and you can easily build the colour to your desired intensity. The powder texture is soft, smooth and buttery. There's no powder kick-up and it applies smoothly, evenly and blends out effortlessly on the skin. The blush stayed on my cheeks for the entire day with little fading until I removed it late in the evening. This was without primer or fixing sprays and for reference, I have normal to dry cheeks.
Swatches
Below are swatches applied on my medium to tan skin, olive (~NC35) skin tone. On the left, is how the illuminating blush looks blended out and on the right is a heavy swatch. Both applied without primer and photographed indoors using a strobe.
Comparison Swatch
The shade is in the same family as the Nars Blush in Seduction shown and swatched below. It is also reminds me of Nars Blush in Sin, which I think I have in a duo palette, but have misplaced it, so unfortunately couldn't swatch and compare it for you. :(
On the left below is Nars Seduction and on the right is Burberry Silk and Bloom.
Scent
There is no noticeable scent or fragrance, so great for sensitive noses. :)
