AWKS TALKS: Underarms and Spring Time

Armpits. Did I just write something that’s, like, totally beauty blogger taboo? Maybe you didn't catch that. Let me say it again. ARMPITS. Beauty's skeleton in the closet. As much as we try to avoid them, neglect can cause all sorts of problems. For example, imagine you’re at school wearing a t-shirt on a warm Spring day. You raise your hand in class to ask a question. Hair pokes out. Flaky skin flies all over the place. Gross, I know. Stuff like that happens in my nightmares. Anyways, my point is that….Armpits need love too.

So in celebration of the Spring… and … wait for it…. armpit care, I’ve been using the Lady Speed Stick Nutra-Skin 24H Invisibly Dry Antiperspirant and the Lady Speed Stick Nutra-Skin 24H Invisibly Dry Roll-on. Both products contain Vitamin E to soothe dry underarm skin caused by cold weather and tight sweaters. I’m not particularly sweaty until summer comes around, but I’ve been enjoying the non-offensive fruity scent and the much needed moisture remedy to the dryness that has plagued my underarms all winter long.

Lady Speed Stick sent me on a little trip to The Ten Spot on the Danforth for the “Thirsty Three” – services for underarms, feet and hands, also known as the areas that are the most prone to showing signs of the harsh, dry Canadian winter. I was treated to an underarm wax ($15), manicure ($30), and pedicure ($50) that left all three of those areas feeling smooth and nourished. Oddly enough, this was actually my first time getting an underarm wax and a pedicure done at a beauty bar.

The verdict? As much as I love doing my own nails and waxing, the mere fact that someone else is doing it for me makes me feel like a well-pampered princess. As soon as I stepped in, I was greeted and then offered something to drink. The employees were cheerful and friendly and the location itself felt bright and welcoming. Jennifer, who did my underarms and mani-pedi, was very open to giving me product recommendations and tons of tips for taking care of my hands/feet/underarms. Also, it was reassuring to know cleanliness is of high importance at the Ten Spot and that all the tools used were either disposable or sanitized stainless steel. Not to mention, there were lots of colour options from OPI and Get Nailed (the Ten Spot’s own polish line). Light pinks and purples go hand in hand with Spring (obviously), so it was only fitting to get those colours on my nails. I walked out with my hands and feet looking they went on a vacation to the Dominican and my underarms feeling flawless.

All in all, my underarms, hands, and feet are plentiful in the moisture department and I'm officially ready for the warmer weather. Plus, I can stretch my arms up to the sky without a care in the world. Now the sunshine and warm weather just have to make an entrance. Any time now would be great…

Do you moisturize your underarms? How are you preparing your body for the warmer months to come?
